MEET Hagar
Hagar Chemali’s experiences stem from her 12 years working in national security and public affairs in the U.S. government and her time since then as a foreign policy analyst, commentator, writer, and YouTube host.
While in the U.S. government, she was Director of Communications and Spokesperson for the U.S. Mission to the United Nations under President Obama, Spokesperson for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Director for Syria and Lebanon at the National Security Council at the White House, and Senior Policy Advisor for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes at the U.S. Treasury.
In addition to providing strategic communications consulting and geopolitical analysis, she hosts and creates the award-winning media brand Oh My World, where she explains geopolitics in an educational and entertaining way. (Sign up for her newsletter here.) She and her work have been featured in The Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, Bloomberg, CNBC, NBC, and BBC. She is also an adjunct associate professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and nonresident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s GeoEconomics Center. Hagar graduated from Barnard College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs with a Master of International Affairs in International Security Policy.
